The author sent me completed chapters to peruse, and give feedback. This has become much more than that. It turned into a journey that has changed the way I view the world. It has brought pain, joy, tears, hopelessness, and hope throughout the adventure. The overwhelming sense I had at first was that the entities that control our world/mind are much too powerful to overcome. Who am I to help anyone in this endeavor? As the journey progressed, I was reminded that it starts with one person, doing something small. A simple gesture of love.

Through this revelation I have begun to do small things in caring for children that experience trauma. Sometimes this is a greeting, sometimes it is a smile. I’ve come to the realization in reading this novel, the smallest gestures can lead to massive change. As the author suggests,
don’t read it alone. Partner with someone who will be there to give you hope. My wish for you, dear reader, is that you will also experience this same hope as I have, in your travel to the island.
